5 Fall Trends to Take from the Runway to Your Closet

During much colder times, when it was below zero and our feet were lost in what seemed like hundreds of inches of snow, designers were hard at work showcasing their A/W15 collections on runways worldwide. Although it’s been six months since those colder weather collections made their initial debut, we’re officially back in the transitional stage where the seasons will begin to change and if you haven’t already, you will soon commence the process of moving your sundresses and sandals to the back of your closet in exchange for rich, buttery textures, “gothic chic” inspired pieces, lug sole boots, high-waisted trousers, the most blinged out bling and of course, the ever so chic box bag.

Although we’ll soon be heading to New York and determining the trends for next spring and summer, we’ve rounded up a comprehensive guide to the five trends you’ll want to update your wardrobe with immediately. Consider it your cheat sheet to your fall wardrobe.

Gothic Chic: Although every self-proclaimed fashion girl is well aware that black is a timeless color that will always serve as a staple, the head-to-toe black looks amplified on runways in Paris, London and Milan have us channeling our inner Wednesday Addams and favorite devious, teenage witch, Nancy Downs. Regardless if your style is more Kate Spade than Alexander Wang, if you live for dramatic flair, you’ll quickly find yourself pulling together looks that combine darker pieces alongside hints of femininity come fall.

Fur Baby: If your style icons consist of any of the following: Rihanna, the Olsen twins, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Kanye West or even Cruella de Vil, keep reading! Although this trend, originally made popular by luxe society women and Grandma’s and embraced by the likes of Christian Dior, Coco Chanel and Balenciaga, is no stranger to design houses, fall collections are calling for it more than ever. Whether you prefer your fur vintage and straight out of your Granny’s closet or fresh off of the runways, the seasonal trend encourages you to take your fur pieces and add an original twist to the classic staple.

The Bling Ring: Glitz, please! For all the glam girls, who prefer maximalism to minimalism, this trend is for you. Although the last few seasons have emphasized an importance on accessories with minimal design, fashion’s affinity for things shiny, sparkly and blinged out is back! From Prada to Miu Miu, Chanel to Dolce & Gabbana and the oversized “B” broach at Balenciaga, you’ll want to make sure your accessories are shining bright like diamonds this fall.

Let’s Get High (Waisted): If the fall runway season taught us anything, we learned that the higher the waistline, the closer to it-girl status. Although this trend is by no means new, we’re thrilled that the fall season will allow for continued indulgence in the incredibly stylish pleasure that is high-waisted bottoms! We especially love this style because it’s flattering on just about everyone due to the ways in which it extends the silhouette and accentuates and adds instant curves. Throw on a pair of high waist bottoms and watch as they instantly transform your entire mood, making you feel both polished and sexy!

Box Bag Lady: Meet the season’s proclaimed “it-bag”: the Box Bag! Although these lady-like, structured bags, which range in shape from lunch boxes to mini trunks, aren’t what one may consider practical for strutting to and from class, box bags are perfect for those special weekends spent off campus with family and friends. If you haven’t already, this is the bag you need to add to the top of your fall lust list.
